The London Communities Coronavirus Appeal is mobilising essential funds to the Capital’s grassroots charities and community groups.

Now more than ever, grassroots charities and community groups are vital for our communities’ most vulnerable people. But they face unprecedented challenges to maintain services and survive the crisis. Please help us to help them reach the people and communities who need them.

Local giving has an essential contribution alongside government support. And we know local people and local businesses want to support communities on their doorstep as well as national efforts. That’s why we have launched this appeal.

We are delighted that Grosvenor, long-time partner to The London Community Foundation, anchored the London Communities Coronavirus Appeal with £250,000.

James Raynor, Chief Executive of Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, said: “This donation is one part of a whole programme of work right now supporting people and businesses in the West End and around London. Grosvenor has done this for centuries in times of crisis and today is no different. We want to help in whatever ways we can.”

Where the funding has gone

So far, funding has gone towards providing emergency funding to charities and community groups supporting those people most vulnerable due to COVID19 as well has supporting organisations with grants up to £50,000 to help change the way they work during the pandemic. We have been using our expertise to ensure these vital funds get to where they are needed. As of October 2020, LCF has awarded over £9m in funding.

Our priority is getting donations to the frontline but we are also committed to updating our partners on what is happening. We will be posting regular updates through Donor Bulletins, blogs on our website and through social media.

Funding from this appeal will be distributed through the London Community Response Fund portal.

Working in partnership

To ensure we can respond to need quickly and reduce pressures on frontline organisations, LCF is working collaboratively with other London funders to provide emergency and response funding during the coronavirus crisis. Coordinated by London Funders, there are now over 60 funders in London sitting behind the London Community Response portal. All emergency funds coming to or managed by LCF – including the National Emergencies Trust and this London Communities Coronavirus Appeal – are being allocated through this portal. By working with other funders on this portal, we want to support the sector by reducing time spent applying for funds by creating one easy access point.

We have also committed to follow best practice of funding charitable organisations during crisis times by signing the London Funders' Commitment: We Stand By The Sector.
